Common Questions

Here I will try to answer a lot of the questions people commonly have about shipping puppies, expenses to expect and about Italian Greyhound puppies.

How much do you charge for shipping and why so much!?

Shipping your puppy is a complicated process that takes a lot of time and a lot more patience! The airlines are very particular about when and under what conditions they allow a puppy to fly.

I ship puppies from the Hector International in Fargo, North Dakota or and the MSP airport in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I charge $275.00 for shipping unless there are special circumstances such as: you request your puppy to fly VIP or something like that.

The actual "ticket" costs about $206.00. The rest goes toward getting your puppy's Health Certificate which he/she needs from a veterinarian in order to get on the airplane, The purchase of a crate to fly in, blankets, a toy, and a tiny amount goes toward my labor. I drive between 100 to 400 miles round trip to ship your puppy depending on which airport we use.

I live in Minnesota. I am sure you have heard we have a pretty cold winter. When it gets below 20 degrees we can’t and the airlines won’t ship your puppy. Northwest Airlines will ship a puppy in 10 degree weather but I have to also have my veterinarian approve and sign an Acclimation Statement. Some vets refuse to do this. So in the winter months we are somewhat at the mercy of the weather when it comes to choosing a date to ship your puppy out.

In the summer it can get kind of hot here. If it is above 85 degrees here or ANYWHERE your puppy is stopping along the way (connecting flights) They will not ship him/her on that date.

I will try to make the process of shipping your puppy as simple as possible!!

Is my puppy potty trained??

I will start your puppy out with potty training. I cannot guarantee that your pup will be completly trained. They grasp the concept at a very young age (with pee pads) and do very well. Italian Greyhounds are very smart but they need consistancy when potty training. If you are not consistant with your training, you may pay for it for the rest of your dogs life!!!  Your rugs may pay!

I start with pee pads and if you are planning to have your pup "outside" trained then I will work with them on that for you too! Some people also use a littler box; I can also help start that too.

Remember that they are only about 8 weeks old when they get to you and are still babies. They will make mistakes and pee where you don't want them to! They need training!! But it should be very simple because they are highly intelegent and want to please their owner with all their little heart!

What do you feed my puppy?

Your puppy is eating Diamond Naturals Puppy Food for small breeds. It is sold at Menards stores. You can also find it Locally by following this link:

If you decide to switch your puppy:

It should be very easy to switch brands once you get your puppy. Start by using mostly purina puppy chow and slowly over a week or two add more and more of your desired brand and less and less of the purina puppy chow until your puppy is transitioned. This way he/she wont get sick or have dry or itchy skin!

What is Full or Limited Registration?

Limited registration means that your puppy is not show quality and cannot compete in many of the show catagories. The AKC papers of a limited reg. puppy have a orange border. If your limited puppy has puppies someday they will not be eligeble for AKC registration.

Full registration means that the puppy can be shown if the owner desires. This does not mean that the puppy is show quality. Only a real trained professional can make that call.   ( I am not trained to make that call!)

It also means that the owner has breeding rights over the dog and if bred to an purebred AKC stud or Dam will have AKC eligible puppies. The papers of a fully registered puppy/dog have a purple border.

(the "papers" are not the forms that I send to you when you get your puppy- his/her papers come in the mail after you complete the new owner information section on the forms I send you, pay for papers and or pedigree certificates and send it in to the AKC)

I sell every puppy with full registration unless I clearly state otherwise. I believe that the owner of the dog should decide if the dog will show or breed I dont want to take rights away from you unless the puppy has something that really warants liminted registration.

In the end it is the Breeders choice to sell the puppy full or limited. If you have any more questions about Full or Limited Registration please refer to the AKC for more complete informations

What if my puppy is sick when I get him/her or shortly after?

I guarantee that your puppy will be free from any sickness or disease for the first 24 hours. This is spelled out in the "contract of sale".  If your puppy is being shipped he/she will be checked out by a veterinarian within 10 days of leaving for your home. They do a complete check up and make sure that the puppy is healthy. I reccomend that you take your new puppy to the vet within the first 24 hours and have a trusted vet make sure that he or she is everything you hoped for! After the 24 hour time period then I cannot issue refunds if things come up. But rest assured - they wont! These are good, healthy pups that my husband and I raise in our home with our family! Read the "Contract of sale" throughly so that you know all the rights that you have!

Is there a contract?

Yes. There is a full legal contract that you will be required to sign before recieving your puppy. This ensures that you and I are both safe regarding the transaction and transfer of the puppy.

I send the contract in the mail. You sign it and send it back to me. I then sign it and make a copy and send that back to you for your records. I have to have the origional document.

Can you personally bring my puppy to me?

If you are interested in having your puppy delivered to your home by me and my husband please ask for a delivery quote. Depending on the time of year/weather and plans that we have/dont have we may be able to personally bring your puppy to you. This could be a great option for those puppy buyers that are weary of the commercial shipping industry and those who don't trust their puppy to anyone else!! Depending on where you are in the US the quote can be about the price of commercial shipping. Typically we charge .60 cent per mile one way.
